Home of the Los Angeles Figure Skating  Club who moved there when Polar Palace burned down. 185 x 85 regulation hockey rink in a complex with bowling alley and what used to be a vast circular municipal pool--now gardens used for weddings.   Cliff Oddson took over the skate shop there, and most of the teachers from Polar also migrated there, as did their students, a step down from Polar.

  • BIG BEAR LAKE, 40679 Lakeview, corner of Badger, Ice Chalet, open from 1963-1978. I have received numerous dates on when it's roof collapsed. I consider the following quote the most  reliable;  "collapse would have been in early February of 1969, the same time that Holiday Market (now Lakeview Market on top of Red Ant Hill) collapsed from the snow/rain weight."   After refrigeration failed it was used as a roller rink. Has been a Fun Plex. April 2013 a 1300 sq foot real and very good ice floor was opened to the public. I took these pics Sept. 14, 2009. The ice floor was pulled I think fall 2013 and subsequently were replaced by two versions of a very small page of artifiical ice with skate rental. I visited it about March 2014.

From Ian H. Taras, M.D. on Jan 27, 2006. "I played hockey there when my team went "on the road" in the  1970s.  It was  a free standing building & otherwise, I have no idea  where it was or what is there now.  I remember that it was colder and  smaller than the Van Nuys Iceland (yes, that is possible) & they would play  a recording of the National Anthem before the hockey games, which was pretty  cool for an 8 year old to feel  like he was an NHL player!"

From Kurt Gunzel of SkatePlex USA on December 6, 2010. “Holiday Skating Rink was  a roller rink that was built in the 1980 time period and closed down in 2009 due to a foreclosure. The facility has recently changed to SkatePlex, USA with a focus on Roller Hockey, sanctioned by USA Inline Hockey.  They are trying to keep hockey going in the High Desert even though it’s not ice hockey. We have a tradition of hockey here even though it hasn’t been consistent over the years, much of it due to a few hockey fans who are still around from the GLAMHA days."
